LIS 6514 DIGITAL LIBRARIES

This paper aims to demonstrate the potential for collaboration between Digital Humanities (DH) and digital libraries through the use of digital tools related to DH projects. Collaboration is essential for ensuring the viability and sustainability of projects produced by academic institutions. Librarians play a crucial role in this collaboration, developing digital tools to create digital platforms for hosting data and information related to DH projects. They also offer spaces to digitize or replicate cultural artifacts by providing access to scanners and 3D printers.

II.b. Students evaluate and select print and digital information resources and systems to meet needs of users.

LIS 6603 BASIC INFORMATION SOURCES AND SERVICES

This guide is intended for undergraduate/graduate students in academic libraries, scholars, and researchers in the field of book history, more precisely, the history of printing during the Modern Times. It offers a wide variety of resources, printed and online, in many aspects of book history spanning from the late Middle Ages to the mid-19th century. In this guide, patrons will find useful information to conduct their research by consulting databases, printed or online books, publishers' series, book history journals, and so on. Not only patrons will know where to find information but they will be guided on how to search by subject in the library catalog. Any person having a keen interest in the printed word will enjoy the tools and resources provided in this guide. See also my personal collection of book history at fsanterre's books | LibraryThing.

LIS 6511 COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

This collection development policy is intended to guide special collections librarians in the management, acquisition, and weeding of the St. Sulpice's Heritage rare books collection. It also provides general guidelines for the type of materials and subjects included in the collections. This project was realized from a semester-long group project.

LIS 5268 MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATIONS FOR LIBRARIES AND INFORMATION CENTERS

In the last 20 years with the introduction of new technologies in libraries, librarians have adapted to meet new standards from patrons’ perspectives. Special collections hosting heritage collections have taken the opportunity to digitize rare books and manuscripts by giving access online to these primary sources. However, limited resources have forced librarians to evaluate what can be digitized in their collections. Determining patron or community needs is a crucial factor for selecting rare materials. Evaluating what primary sources will be digitized is based on institutional policies as well as intellectual, historic, and physical characteristics. During the process of digitizing, curators must select the right type of scanner according to the best preservation standards. Other elements such as, file format, resolution, colors, metadata and so on must be taken into consideration when digitizing rare books and manuscripts. In other word, giving access widely to rare materials is a goal cherished by librarians when digitizing.
